Types of Case Managers
There are many different kinds of case managers β each specializing in a different area of life. Find the right one for your situation below.
Housing Case Manager
Helps you find emergency shelter, transitional housing, Section 8 vouchers, and permanent housing. Connects you with HUD programs and local housing authorities.
Substance Abuse / Addiction Case Manager
Works with people in recovery to coordinate treatment, sober living, relapse prevention, and life skills. Often based at treatment centers or outpatient programs.
Mental Health Case Manager
Coordinates psychiatric care, therapy, medications, and community support for people with mental health conditions. Often called a Behavioral Health Case Manager.
CPS / Child Welfare Case Manager
Assigned by Child Protective Services when children are involved. Works with families on reunification plans, parenting classes, housing stability, and sobriety requirements.
Medical / Health Case Manager
Helps people with chronic illness, disability, or complex medical needs navigate healthcare, insurance, specialist referrals, and medication management.
Re-entry / Criminal Justice Case Manager
Specializes in helping people leaving prison or jail get housing, ID documents, employment, benefits, and community support. Works with parole and probation.
Vocational / Employment Case Manager
Focuses on helping you find and keep a job β resume, interview prep, job placement, and career training. Often connected to WIOA or Department of Rehabilitation.
Family Services Case Manager
Supports families in crisis with parenting, domestic violence safety planning, childcare, financial assistance, and family stabilization programs.
Veterans Case Manager
Helps veterans access VA benefits, housing (HUD-VASH), mental health services, disability claims, and employment support.
Senior / Aging Case Manager
Supports older adults with in-home care, Medicaid/Medicare navigation, assisted living placement, transportation, and meal programs.
Disability / Independent Living Case Manager
Helps people with physical, developmental, or intellectual disabilities access benefits, assistive technology, independent living resources, and disability rights.
Immigrant / Refugee Case Manager
Assists immigrants and refugees with legal status, resettlement, language access, employment, housing, and navigating U.S. systems.
